** UPDATE **
December 2013
Sweet Sissi - now Missy - has found her forever home!
Beautiful and gentle Missy, a striking-looking, petite Thai Ridgeback mix, flew here to her new home in Wisconsin, USA in late September.
She is a wonderful and loving girl, but she arrived just as her adoptive family suffered the tragic, unexpected passing of their beloved older male Rottweiler, Jack.
Pack dynamics went into a tailspin as their two surviving female dogs - both big, dominant gals - struggled to accept a much-smaller, extremely-submissive newcomer while at the same time, mourning the sudden loss of their big brother. Unfortunately, Missy was unsafe to remain in the home under such circumstances, so she moved into a foster home here in the Chicago area.
Her foster family reported that she was a joy to have. She was clean, quiet, housebroken, gentle, friendly with other dogs at the local park, crated well, and tried hard to shyly and gently make friends with the resident kitty cat.
Meanwhile, Missy went back up on Petfinders. That's where her photos and story were spotted by kind Kim Erfort. Kim came to the VIPs Pet Hotel to meet Missy last week - and it was love at first sight!
Missy continues to do great with Kim. She has made herself at home with all of her lovely new toys, treats, and chews, and Kim reports that she enjoys sleeping in the queen bed and watching the world outside her big window.
We are so thrilled that Missy is finally home, at long last!!
Thank you to all who made this possible, from Elfe for saving, vetting, loving, and living alongside sweet Sissi for such a very long time; to kind-hearted international supporters for donating towards her flight funds; and to Kim, for welcoming dear Sissi into her heart and home with open arms.

Sissi's Story
One evening in early February, 2012, Elfe's dogs raised a ruckus as if someone had trespassed - but when she went to investigate, nothing seemed amiss.
Later that night, coming home in the dark, she was about 50 meters from her gate when her car lights illuminated then-Sissi and her three tiny 5-week-old siblings alongside the road.
Their bellies were huge with intestinal parasites, and they were covered in ticks and fleas. Several had wounds of unknown origin, some of which were open and maggot-infested.
Elfe quickly collected them and brought them inside where she began the painstaking process of removing their ticks and maggots, defleaing them, deworming them, treating their wounds, and helping them to eat.
With her loving attention, they quickly recovered and soon began to thrive.
Here is Sissi, on the road to recovery.
Such a lucky, lucky, lucky litter to have ended up with Elfe!
And a few more baby pictures of happy, sweet little Sissi!
Sissi was by now a year and a half old, and one of hundreds of dogs living at Elfe's tropical dog sanctuary. However, she was such a personable and affectionate little girl, that Elfe knew she really needed a home and family to call her very own.
Elfe added her to an adoptable dog album on her Facebook page, and it was love at first sight for our original adopters. And it's easy to see why! Who can resist this adorable face and those funny half-mast ears?
Those pleading eyes?
That happy wagger of a tail?
It's no surprise that Sissi's unusual coat markings feature a giant heart splashed across the middle of her back...her longtime mom, Elfe, told us she was an absolute sweetheart.

Before she flew to the USA, Sissi had no idea how much her life was about to change.
The big day - Friday, October 4 arrived, thanks to donations from our many generous supporters and friends. Missy traveled like a champ - and arrived at the airport with tail wagging, licking Dawn, Chuck, and I with gentle affection.
She immediately befriended a wonderful JAL cargo employee who was himself an international animal rescuer - he worked to fly dogs here for adoption who were abandoned or orphaned by the tsunami/nuclear reactor disaster in Japan.
Missy was going to be driven up to her new home a little bit later by Dawn, because that weekend - October 5 and 6 - ISDF was having their first annual rummage sale, hosted by the wonderful Mitchum family (amazing adopters of beloved Megan).
Missy came to the rummage sale, and although still jet-lagged, she was happily held and cuddled by all of us there.
Her favorite human, though, was Gina, mommy of irrepressible Sparkle.
Gina and Missy bonded all afternoon long. Missy was so relaxed and happy in Gina's lap!
When Missy's adoption fell through, she was brought back here to Chicago by Dawn.
A very kind family met her at VIPs Pet Hotel, and she went into a wonderful foster home shortly thereafter…
...where she is doing very well, even with the resident kitty! They tell us how well she crates - and how much she loves watching the world through their picture window - and how sweet she is.
Missy is a dear little dog.
We are heartbroken that things didn't work out for her in her original adoptive home, but we are hopeful that it was the bridge that connected her old life with the amazing new life she is about to begin. There's just one piece of the puzzle missing now - a home of her own to complete this tale.
Could you be the happy ending we are all so desperately hoping for, for this sweet, plucky, gentle, loving little girl?

Last night, she came to ISDF's Rockin' for Rescues event at VIPs Pet Hotel, where she was the star of the show.
She wore a giant "ADOPT ME" bandanna, and her leash changed hands a dozen times, as everyone took a turn cuddling and hanging out with this sweet girl.
